There will be easier access to get to Halong Bay thanks to the opening of Van Don International Airport on 30th December 2019.

It is located in Quang Ninh Province, just 50km away from Ha Long Bay – the UNESCO World Heritage site, hence, tourists can transfer from the airport to Halong Bay by bus or taxi. In the past, it would take a 4 hour-bus journey from international Noi Bai Airport but there will be a direct flight for you.

Its design is inspired by Halong Bay’s stunningly spectacular natural beauty, especially it delivers a modern state-of-the-art runway. “No airport in Vietnam is more modern than this newest one”, said Romy Berntsen – a project manager and architect from NACO and an airport consultancy assisting in Van Don’s construction.

The expense to construct the airport in the first 2 years took up to 7.463 billion VND ($ 439.2 million). This is the first international airport that Sun Group – a private company, the country’s premier developer of tourism, leisure, and entertainment-focused properties and projects have ever carried out.

It is estimated there will be 2 million tourists every year in the next two years and 5 million ones annually by 2013.

Sun Group will also invest on two big projects of infrastructure construction in Quang Ninh concluding the Halong-Van Don Highway and the Halong International Cruise Port. Through the 60km long Halong-Van Don Highway, the time to travel from Van Don International Airport has a fall to 50 minutes.

Remarkably, designed by an architect – Bill Bensley who is behind luxurious stays such as the Four Seasons Tented Camp Chiang Rai, and the J.W. Marriott Phu Quoc, the Halong International Cruise Port will be set to receive international cruise ships. This port is able to accommodate two cruise ships at the same time.
