When deciding the best time to travel to Vietnam, consider that the country with tropical monsoon climate might not seem huge but keeps incredibly diverse weather from place to place. The Best Time to Explore Vietnam

There is no particular season to highly recommend as the best time for visiting Vietnam due to such a complicated weather picture. Overall, the most favorable seasons are autumn (Sep-Dec) and spring (March and April) if you intend to discover the whole country.

Weather Overview

Mountainous Far North

Sapa, Ha Giang, Bac Ha, Mu Cang Chai, etc
The climate in Sapa or Mu Cang Chai concludes two seasons like the dry season from October to late March and the wet one from April to September. Especially, it can get very cold and frosty in December and January. It should avoid the wet season to ensure safety when you transfer.
The best time to travel around the north-east (Ha Giang) is from October to April – the dry season. We recommend avoiding the rainy season (May to September) when you travel Ha Giang.

North Vietnam

Hanoi, Halong Bay, Ninh Binh, Mai Chau, Moc Chau, etc
North Vietnam comprises two distinct winter and summer seasons. Winter lasts from November to April with the average temperature of 15-22◦C and summer runs from May to October with hot and humid weather. The wettest months of the year is from July to September when sometimes junk sailing in Halong Bay cannot work.

Central Vietnam

Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue, Da Lat, Quy Nhon & Nha Trang, etc
Hoi An, Hue, and Da Nang remain hot and dry weather from mid-January to late August with the highest temperature of mid-30◦c. In October and November, the rainfall reaches the peak levels, leading to the form of typhoons.
Quy Nhon is a six-hour drive south of Hoi An, so it has the same weather pattern as Hoi An, however, the dry season is slightly longer due to its juxtaposition to the southern part.
Nha Trang takes advantage of the longest dry season (Jan to Sep) with high temperatures and little rain. The wet weather from June to October should be avoided when you travel Da Lat – the central highlands.

South Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh, the Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc, Con Dao, Phan Thiet, etc
The climate of the south is divided into two simple seasons such as wet and dry. The dry season starts in November and ends in April (slightly hotter and more humid). The wet weather runs from May until early November, receiving an amount of rainfall. Although the rainfall during the wet season is so heavy, it lasts a short time. The average temperatures in South Vietnam fluctuate 25-35◦C year-round.
